Wee are the World, our Childcare and Early Learning Center, cares for children ages six weeks old to five years of age across 4 classrooms. We provide breakfast, lunch and snacks for all children. If your child is in diapers or pull-ups, you are responsible for providing diapers/pull-ups and diaper wipes for your child.
Our curriculum philosophy involves the whole child: social, emotional, cognitive and physical areas of development and learning. We encourage and support children’s emerging interests, in-depth explorations and multimedia expressions. As we discover their interests, we build on those inclinations and fascinations to help them learn naturally and holistically as individual learners and in learning groups. We believe in hands-on exploration and experimenting. Each child learns and processes information differently, so teachers are encouraged to create lesson plans and classroom environments that support various learning styles.
Infant Development
In the first year, babies learn to focus their vision, explore the world within their reach, and learn about the things around them by using their hands. Cognitive development is the learning process of memory, language, thinking, and reasoning. They continue to develop gross and fine motor skills, language, cognitive, and social skills. Babies are developing bonds of love and trust with their parents and others as part of social and emotional development. The way parents cuddle, hold, and play with their baby will set the basis for how they will interact with them and the world around them. Learning language is more than making sounds as they discover their voices.
Toddler Development
Toddlers are children 1 to 3 years of age. At this age, toddlers need a lot of attention and reassurance. It is our experience that toddlers grow and mature with much activity, frequent praise, and hugs. This is a very physical age with touching being effective for positive growth. Since toddlers are developing their speech, its essential to read and talk to them as people, not babies. Tremendous intellectual, social, and emotional changes are evident during this developmental stage. Toddlers are open to learn about the world and their place in it.
Preschool Development
Children 3 to 5 years of age are preschoolers. At this age, they are trying to find out where their place is in life, so we do a lot of work on building the child’s self-esteem (for example, “I am a person,” “I am great,” “I like myself”). They also assert their independence and develop basic life and social skills through peer-to-peer and adult interactions. Learning activities will focus on acquiring new skills, expanding cognitive abilities, further developing gross and fine motor skills, and increasing their knowledge base as preparation for primary school.
